Trade Idea: MARA $11.10
(Marathon Digital Holdings)
Buy March 20th $13 Calls for $1.75

Marathon Digital (MARA) is rapidly evolving from a pure-play Bitcoin miner into a broader digital-infrastructure platform positioned at the intersection of Bitcoin, AI computing, and large-scale power monetization. While investors typically focus on the company’s ~53,000 BTC treasury, worth roughly $4.7 billion, that is only the starting point. MARA controls 1.1 gigawatts of power capacity, one of the largest energy footprints in the United States tied to digital compute.
Power Supply
Power is the critical bottleneck for modern AI data centers. While GPUs can be procured and buildings can be constructed, large blocks of energized, high-density power capacity take years to secure. By owning the power, the land, the substations, and the cooling infrastructure, MARA sits on the scarce asset AI developers, hyperscalers, and high-performance computing (HPC) companies need most.
A New Business
Building on that foundation, MARA is now actively entering AI colocation, a business model in which third-party customers deploy GPU clusters inside MARA’s facilities while paying for power, cooling, and space. This approach allows MARA to monetize its energy footprint without buying GPUs itself, generating steady, high-margin recurring revenue. The company then extended this strategy internationally on August 11, 2025, when it announced the acquisition of a 64% majority stake in Exaion, an HPC and secure cloud platform originally created within EDF, Europe’s largest utility. Set to close in Q4 2025, the deal gives MARA immediate access to 1,250 GPUs, enterprise HPC clients, and a seasoned operations team dramatically accelerating MARA’s ability to scale AI compute services. Together, the U.S. power footprint, emerging AI colocation business, and Exaion’s HPC capabilities give MARA an asset mix that very few companies possess.
“Cheap”
While Bitcoin is down 25% over the last month, MARA has fallen roughly 60%, effectively wiping out any premium the market once attributed to its non-Bitcoin businesses. This dislocation is the core of the opportunity.
At today’s levels, Marathon’s enterprise value is approximately $7.2 billion, yet its Bitcoin treasury alone is worth ~$4.7 billion. The market is effectively valuing all of Marathon’s operating assets, including 1.1 GW of power infrastructure, two decades of future Bitcoin production, the early AI colocation platform, and the European HPC business acquired through Exaion, at only $2.5 billion. When benchmarked against private-market valuations for power-rich AI datacenter assets, those pieces are worth materially more.
MARA is still being priced as if it were a single-line Bitcoin miner, despite owning one of the most strategic digital-energy footprints in the U.S. and the early components of a global AI compute platform. The gap between the company’s asset value and its trading value has now widened to a level that is unusually asymmetric, and for long-term investors, increasingly difficult to ignore.
The Trade
MARA’s pivot from Bitcoin into AI initially attracted fast money looking for a repeat of the moves seen in its peers. Upside call activity was heavy as traders played the stock from 15 to 23. The problem is that MARA arrived a little late, and the market has recently repriced the entire “AI datacenter” theme. The air came out quickly, and short-term momentum players were forced to unwind.
Even so, the current disconnect between Bitcoin and MARA looks exaggerated. The stock is now down roughly 35 percent for the year, which makes it a prime candidate for end-of-year selling pressure and technical overshoot.
Earnings are scheduled for late February, which gives time for positioning to clean up and for sentiment to reset.
The main risk remains the price of Bitcoin. It will continue to dominate the stock’s day-to-day performance. However, the combination of the sharp move lower, the valuation reset, and options flow that was caught leaning the wrong way all create a better risk-reward setup than the chart alone would suggest. Letting the dust settle should offer a more balanced entry point into a name with real optionality once sentiment normalizes.
I like the MARA March 20th $13 Calls for $1.75. The Target Stock Price is $19-$21.
