NexGen Energy (NXE) is a Canadian uranium development company advancing one of the world’s largest and highest-grade uranium projects, the Rook 1 Project, in Saskatchewan’s Athabasca Basin. The company is positioned to become a key Western supplier of nuclear fuel at a time when global demand for clean, reliable baseload power is accelerating.
August Conference Call
NexGen’s message on their August Earnings Conference call was, essentially, “we’re built and waiting for the green light.” They framed Rook 1 as technically simple, procurement is already in motion, headcount is in place, and the company is synchronized to move from permits to shovels quickly. Commercially, they doubled contracted volumes to more than 10 Mlbs while keeping pricing largely market-related, preserving upside to uranium prices rather than locking in fixed rates. That combination of execution readiness plus upside-sensitive contracts signals confidence that approvals are forthcoming and production time is near.
Capital Raises
In early October, the company announce two capital raises. NexGen upsized an Australia offering to ~A$600 m and ran a parallel North America raise of roughly C$400 m, bolstering cash for engineering, site works, and pre-production so they can hit the ground running immediately after federal approvals.
Investors often read this move as confidence that approvals are on track and that remaining steps are procedural. To be precise, there’s been no public disclosure that the government pre-cleared the project, but it does feel like they got the wink-wink. Net-net: capital secured, contracts structured for upside, and a posture that treats final approval as the last formality before build.
The Trade
Bullish call buying in NXE kicked off in September after U.S. announcements supporting expanded uranium reserves. Investors targeted upside in the October, November, and January expiries.
What really stood out was the early-October capital raise. My first read was that it signaled confidence, perhaps an informal nod that approvals were on track. I was surprised that the stock dipped on the deal. But it only took a few more days for options flow to confirm the idea.
By Monday and Tuesday of this week, large blocks hit the November and January lines, suggesting someone got the comfort they needed to lean in. The stock is now pressing for new highs.
The government has scheduled hearing sessions for November 19, 2025 and February 9–13, 2026.
Earnings are also due in early-November.
I like the NXE November 21st $10-$12 Call Spread for $0.50. The Target Stock Price Range is $13-$14.
Essentially, we get 3 to 1 with earnings, a hearing, and a potential breakout.
Another way to play it is to just buy the $10 Calls.
Or, you can buy the $10 Calls and wait to sell the November $12 or $13 Calls on a push higher.
