What are Today's Top Shark Trades?
The Home Tool
The Home Tool is an easy place to start that immediately shows you the Top Individual trades in the Market and individual Sectors. In addition, I've created filters for you to narrow down some of the most important trades in seconds.
On the top left corner of the Home page, you can find the calendar. Click on it and call any date in the past going back approximately 15 weeks. This can be useful to quickly find the top trades over time.
Filters
There are several filters that are useful to narrow down your search. At the top, you can click on "Group" to change the universe of stocks or ETFs that you are looking for. For example, you can make the universe of stock those just in the S&P500, or just ETFs, or even stocks with earnings in the next 10 days, and individual sectors. Choose the group you want to focus on.
In addition, you can control the amount of results you want to show up, whether it's 20, 50 or 100 results.
On the data sets you can see even more filters to drill down further. I've created a video to show you these powerful filters in action and how easy they retrieve great results. The filters are:
ATM & OTM Options - In general, we are looking for these types of options because they offer the most leverage and used only when a large move is expected.
No Spreads - Spreads can cloud the results. For example, we don't care about straddles and Conversions. Both of these show up as "Spreads' and have little value for what we are looking for. Some days they dominate the list and so we want to get rid of those to clean the results.
> 2 weeks
We remove the 2-week options because of two reasons:
It is much harder to decipher the flow when there are hundreds of thousands of options.
The Top 1% tend to use these near-term options to manage their risk-reward profile. That intent is harder to decipher.
When looking at a pool of data beyond two weeks, you clear out a lot of the retail and day-trader flow which makes it easier to see the Top 1% flow geared at buying leverage for direction (as opposed to risk management).
Volume Analyzer
Pressing any cell in the Volume column will get you the Volume Analyzer. This pop-up will give you a detailed like at the flow during the day in 1-minute intervals. You will also get two graphs:
Stock Price vs the Implied Volatility of the options traded during the day.
A histogram of volume aggregated over 1-minute intervals.
Below that you get the actual data driving the above charts. In that data you will find more information which includes premiums paid, the amount of options that traded on the bid or ask as a percentage, and notice whether it traded as a spread.
This chart becomes very valuable to the user who is looking to gain confidence on his assessment and confirmation of an option buyer.
Open Interest Analyzer
The Open Interest Analyzer has three graphs that give you further insight on the Options performance over time and highlights when the activity in the option occurred. Below that are rows of information used to create these charts as well as the Change in Open Interest, the percentage amount that traded on the bid or ask, Implied Volatility, and the number of trades in the option each day.
